Vilamoura is the ideal setting for a golf break in Portugal. It is known as one of Europe’s top golfing locations. Vilamoura, which spans 2,000 acres in the Algarve, was built in the 1980s as an elite golfing destination, and the resorts have since been known as a golfer’s paradise.

Golfing in vilamoura isn’t enough to persuade you to visit the region for your next golf vacation; we’ve put together a list of ten reasons why this Portuguese resort should be your next stop.

Where is Vilamoura?

Vilamoura is situated in Portugal’s well-known Algarve region. It is halfway between the popular cities of Albufeira and Faro on the Atlantic coast. The resort has two beaches that reach west to the fishing community of Olhos de Agua and southeast to the town of Quartier.

Reasons to have a golf holiday in Vilamoura

Vilamoura is a premium resort that was purpose-built.

Vilamoura is one of Portugal’s most prestigious resorts, as well as one of Europe’s largest private tourism destinations. Vilamoura, unlike most resorts, was designed with the tourist business in mind. Vilamoura focuses on delivering exceptional tourist amenities and services while sacrificing its authentic Portuguese atmosphere. Vilamoura is the most sophisticated of all the Algarve vacation towns because to this dedication.

Vilamoura has excellent weather all year round

Vilamoura is a beautiful place to visit any time of year, with warm winters, nice spring and autumns, and long scorching summers. Summer highs are roughly 28 degrees Celsius, while moderate winters average 16 degrees Celsius between December and February. From mid-May to mid-October, Vilamoura has ideal weather for relaxing on the two gorgeous beaches. April, October, and November are the wettest months, while July and August are mostly dry. It’s also worth mentioning that the tourist season’s peak occurs in July and August. The majority of tourist facilities in the Algarve close towards the end of October and reopen during Easter, as in other locations.

Vilamoura offers incredible golf courses

Vilamoura has six great 18-hole golf facilities, including several championship courses. The Oceanic Golf firm, which is known for its high standards and high-quality facilities, manages all of the golf courses. In terms of golf courses, we recommend the historic Old Golf Course, the Millennium Golf Course, and the Victoria Golf Course, which hosts the Portugal Masters During the months of October and November, when the weather is ideal for golf, green fees are at their highest, and most championship golf courses demand handicap certificates

Vilamoura has a wide range of accommodation

Vilamoura has a wide selection of lodging alternatives to suit all budgets and tastes because it was purpose-built to provide high-quality tourist facilities. The resort offers a wide range of accommodations, from five-star luxury hotels to privately owned villas and flats.

Vilamoura is centered around a beautiful marina

Vilamoura marina is flanked by chic hotels, restaurants, and bars, serving as the resort’s focal point. The complex attracts luxury yachts with its 1000-berth marina, contributing to the sophisticated environment. There’s also a lovely promenade that’s ideal for an evening stroll.

Vilamoura has two pristine beaches

Nothing compares sitting on the smooth golden sands of a beach after an early morning tee-off time. Vilamoura is the ideal place to unwind after a day on the course, as it has two stunning beaches. Praia de Falesia is to the west of Vilamoura marina and stretches all the way to Olhos d’Agua, whilst Praia de Vilamoura is to the east of the marina and stretches all the way to Quarteira. If lounging on the beach isn’t your thing, motorised water sports such as jet skis, banana boats, and parasailing are available.

Vilamoura has lots of things to do

Apart from golf and water sports, Vilamoura has a wide range of activities to satisfy everyone’s preferences. The resort features a tennis club with 12 clay courts and five-a-side football pitches, so there are lots of ways to stay active. Aside from that, the marina offers boat cruises as well as dolphin and whale watching tours.

Vilamoura is close to other resorts

While Vilamoura encompasses a wide 200-acre area, other destinations in Portugal’s Algarve region are easily accessible by Golf-Drives. For visitors wishing to see all of the Algarve, the market village of Loule and the busy strip are both near by. Alternatively, you might visit Faro, the Algarve’s capital city, or the beautiful Rio Formosa nature reserve.

Vilamoura has excellent restaurants

Vilamoura is known for its café culture and sophisticated dining alternatives that overlook the marina. Fish based on the fresh catch from Quarteira fishing harbour is the region’s specialty, although there is plenty of variety to suit all tastes. We recommend Braganca Mar, which serves delicious Cataplana fish stew and seafood paella, as well as local wine from Sir Cliff Richard’s vineyard nearby. It’s also worth noting that, whereas most tourist attractions close during the off-season, the marina complex’s restaurants and cafes remain open due to the substantial resident population.

Vilamoura has great nightlife

Vilamoura has a vibrant nightlife atmosphere that revolves around the marina, despite the lack of superclubs. Alternatively, go to Vilamoura Casino, which has a variety of games areas and regular nightly entertainment.

How to get to Vilamoura

Vilamoura is around 25 kilometres west of Faro Airport, which provides flights across Europe. From Faro Airport to Vilamoura, public transportation is extremely limited, with the journey taking between 1hr30mins and 2 hours depending on connections. As a result, many guests opt for a quick and painless private transfer from Faro Airport to Vilamoura.

Golf-Drives can transport you from Faro Airport to your Vilamoura accommodation, as well as from Vilamoura to golf courses and back! Our transfers are all built with golfers in mind, and each one includes a golf bag as part of the package.
