The automobile industry is always improving and developing innovations to cars to beat out the competition. Some new automobile technology aims to make your ride safer, while others go for more surprising features. Some manufacturers aim to make greener vehicles that have less of an impact on the Earth’s environment.
Here are just a few of the most prominent automobile innovations you should keep an eye on.
- Teen Driver Technology
Despite their protests otherwise, teenagers are statistically some of the most reckless drivers around. In 2019 alone, over 250,000 teenagers were treated in emergency departments for motor vehicle-related injuries.
Teens between the ages of 16 and 19 have the highest risk of getting into a crash when compare with every other age group. One of the most recent and notable automobile innovations seeks to reduce that risk.
In 2021, General Motors created and released the Teen Driver suite of features. Teen Driver acts as a safeguard for new drivers, working much like a child lock on electric devices.
The system notifies owners if their car is driven a certain way and filter out explicit music. It can also create a Report Card for parents, detailing any risky situations that happened while their child was driving their car.
- Improved Engines
Some of the biggest innovations happen under the hood of your car. Ford’s new PowerBoost full-hybrid driveline saves fuel and reduces emissions.
Newer electric vehicles are addressing the issues such as high prices and poor battery life. The US startup Lordstown Motors Corps created the EnduranceTM truck that is low maintenance with a four-wheel drive. German startup ChargeX offers a solution for electric vehicles that can turn any parking space into a charging station.
This planetary gear DC motor provides high torque output with high efficiency to improve your engine. They’re compact, have low noise, and don’t require maintenance.
- Vehicle Cameras
One piece of automobile technology that’s seen improvements is the cameras attached to them. A wide range of vehicles offers 360-degree video that helps you avoid collisions while you’re parking. Your car uses multiple cameras on every side of the car to create a virtual top-down view of your surroundings.
There are also video rearview mirrors, which use a rear-mounted camera to display what’s behind your car. The mirror functions as a video display but it can be toggled back and forth between the two. It’s especially handy if you have a backseat full of passengers or luggage blocking your view.
Innovations in Automobile Technology
Improvements in automobile technology are always seeking to make your ride safer and more efficient than ever before.
Even though autonomous vehicles haven’t been mastered yet, manufacturers still see them as a possibility in the future. There are still improvements being made regarding advanced driver assist systems, though. Drivers can also look forward to better and longer-lasting electric vehicles.
