Winter is a magical time of the year that is incredibly beautiful. For landscapers, it can be a great time of the year to create stunning looking gardens and outdoor spaces that are both practical and stylish. Many landscapers find the winter a quieter period, but there is still a lot that you can do to transform outdoor spaces. With this in mind, keep reading for 5 landscaping ideas for winter that are sure to impress your clients and showcase your abilities.

  1. Install an All-Weather Deck

People tend to spend less time in their garden during the winter months, but this does not have to be the case. Installing an all-weather deck by choosing non-slip decking and with a cover can provide a cosy outdoor space for people to enjoy spending time in their backyard. You can then add touches like a chiminea and fairy lights to make the space both practical and stylish.

  1. Plant Winter Bulbs

Winter flowers can add colour and life to the garden during the colder months. They can look fantastic by contrasting with the winter conditions and really make a garden pop. There are a number of great options for winter flowers, including heathers, winter irises, witch hazel and cyclamen just as few options.

  1. Draw the Eye With a Focal Point

According to avantilandscaping.ca, focal points in the garden can always work well but particularly in winter against a quieter backdrop. There are plenty of options for interesting focal points, such as a bright reflective piece of metal that will stand out in a natural setting and create visual appeal.

  1. Evergreen Shrubs

Evergreen shrubs can look fantastic during the winter months where there is not much colour in the backyard. You could even shape smaller shrubs into topiary for a structured feel and you can use a range of landscaping tools to achieve this look. Caucasica is a good option for the winter months as an evergreen hedging plant that can withstand the freezing temperatures.

  1. String Lights

String lights are one of the simplest but most effective ways to improve a garden during the winter months. There is something magical and cosy about string lights that can be used to bring colour and warmth to the darkness and they can work particularly well when draped across a fence or empty arbour.

Hopefully, this article will give you a few ideas for ways to bring backyards to life during the winter months. Winter can be a tough period for landscapers, but when you can create spaces that are beautiful, welcoming and practical despite the weather, you are sure to impress your clients and add to your portfolio. Winter is a special time of the year and there are many ways to bring gardens to life.
