If you are a thrilling person looking for a movie to watch on Netflix, you might typically head to the horror section. Canada has produced quite a few films that can be streamed on Netflix right now!
So next time you’re looking for something spooky to stream while at work or school, look no further than these seven Canadian-made horror films available right now on Netflix.
1. The Forbidden Room (2015)
This 2015 film won the Toronto International Film Festival award for Best Canadian Feature, and you can find it on Netflix right now! It’s a surreal, beautifully-shot feature about an evil submarine captain. With a kidnapped submarine captain’s wife and lots of submarine captains.
It’s up to two people who are not submarine captains to find the missing ones. It’s weird as hell but quite enjoyable if you’re into surrealism. This movie has some Canadian culture, too – watch out for any Canadians in it!
2. Antisocial (2013)
Antisocial is among the best horror movies on Netflix Canada. It is a unique sci-fi horror flick about a group of friends who are all connected to the internet and social media somehow. They suddenly go on a camping trip with someone they don’t know because he met them online. Of course, it doesn’t go well.
This Canadian-made film was released in 2013 with pretty decent reviews and starred Michelle Mylett, who you might also recognize from another Netflix movie called “How To Plan An Orgy In A Small Town.”
3. The Drownsman (2014)
This movie is a Canadian-American production, so it’s not entirely from Canada. It was filmed in Ontario and had several key Canadian actors in starring roles! It takes place mainly in the states, but there are some excellent shots of Niagara Falls, which you can’t go wrong with.
The movie is about a woman who moves from Toronto to the states, and the very first night she’s there, her friends convince her to explore in an abandoned pool. It just so happens that a manhole cover pops off nearby.
The outcome is a 100-year old ghostly man who has no trouble slaughtering everyone one by one.
4. WolfCop (2014)
This film is a bit of a cult classic at this point, and it’s produced out of Saskatchewan! It follows an alcoholic cop who becomes a werewolf whenever he drinks too much. He’s a total bad-ass who takes no crap from anyone.
If you don’t mind subtitles, this amazing Canadian horror movie based on werewolves is worth the watch – you can find it streaming on Netflix right now! The movie is goofy at times, and it does take place in a small town. It was filmed in Regina.
5. The Hallow (2015)
The Hallow is a mix between a horror film and an action thriller. It is about a family who moves from London to the country only to find out it’s full of monsters that want them dead. From what I’ve seen, it’s pretty accurate to what the average country. A Canadian family would know if they moved near a small town.
The movie is filmed in Ontario and has some outstanding actors in it – you’ll recognize several faces from other movies if you’re a fan of horror flicks. The monsters look great too! You can watch it streaming on Netflix right now.
6. Tallulah (2016)
This film was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, and it’s one of the best recent horror films you can watch on Netflix Canada right now! The movie was filmed in Ontario, about a girl who kidnaps a baby and goes on the run with her. The movie stars some well-known actors like Ellen Page, Allison Janney, and Tallulah herself – Tammy Blanchard.
It’s one of those movies where you don’t know what to expect, but you might end up loving it! It’s full of suspense and great acting, and it’s one of the must-see horror movies on Netflix Canada.
7. The Invitation (2015)
The Invitation is an American film, but it takes place mainly in California, so I’ve included it here! This critically acclaimed thriller is about a man who goes to a dinner party with his ex-wife and her new husband. He used to live in the house they now own, and things start going wrong as he realizes all is not what it seems!
This movie has received fantastic reviews from critics, and it’s worth watching if you’re into horror movies – watch out for the ending!
