1. Excavators
Excavators are power-operated machines that do the work of a manual shovel, which is to dig up the earth during building and road projects. They are also used to remove trees, old buildings, and other barriers from the site.
A traditional excavator consists of a long arm with a digging bucket connected to its end and a cab that serves as the machine’s control room. Typically, the cab is positioned on a rotating platform with wheels or tracks that can spin up to 360 degrees, making the machine easy to operate.
2. Bulldozers
It is a large piece of equipment with a metal bucket plate used to push, carry, and compress loose material on the job site. The metal plate can also be used to destroy walls or strong structures and release tightly packed materials.
3. Forwarder
Its primary purpose is for the transportation of felled logs to a loading site. The forwarder, typically an eight-wheel pickup truck, is designed to travel across rough terrain and move logs above ground level. This feature makes it a choice of construction equipment by commercial general contractors in Calgary
4. Skidders
They are also used in logging operations. It moves chopped trees to a landing area where they will be loaded onto the means of transportation. Skidders drag logs to a loading point, which differs from forwarders, which transport logs a few inches above the ground.
5. Trencher
Trenchers are used for digging holes in the ground. These ditches are typically used for drainage, cable, pipeline, and other applications. Chain trenchers and wheeled trenchers are the two types of trenching equipment available.
6. Graders
Another type of equipment used in construction, particularly for the construction of roads, is graders or motor graders. Its primary function is to level the soil’s surface.
7. Loader
On construction sites, loaders are used to load materials like raw materials, waste from sites, etc., to trucks or other means of transportation. It has a large front bucket and a shorter moving arm and can be tracked or wheeled. Wheeled loaders are frequently employed by commercial general contractors in Calgary, while tracked loaders are used in locations where wheeled vehicles are impractical.
8. Asphalt Paver
They are used in construction to lay pavement. Asphalt is continually put into the paver’s feeding bucket by the dump truck, which then uses the paver to spread the asphalt uniformly and lightly crush it into the road surface.
9. Compactors
To compact the material or soil surface, rollers or compactors are utilized. There are various types of compactors available for various compacting tasks.
- Smooth wheel rollers, which are used for compacting thin layers of earth, asphalt, etc., smooth wheel rollers are employed.
- Sheep-foot rollers are employed for deep compaction.
- Pneumatic-tyred rollers are used for compacting fine-grained soils, asphalt layers
