The Internet of Things and the 5G rollout are beckoning and this signals a new level of global connectivity, which is an exciting time to be alive. So, what’s in the pipeline? Let’s take a look at some of the amazing things we will be able to do in this new age of digital tech.
- Smarthomes – Smart has become a household term and the smarthome is managed by AI, monitoring the utilities, temperature and ready to do your bidding. When you know you’ll be getting home at 9pm, you can order the pot roast to be ready, along with all the veg, while housework will soon become a thing of the past, with robots that are programmed to interact with you, the homeowner. These ‘humanoids’ will even have a sense of humour and learn about you in an ongoing way.
- Automated transport – Yes, the day will finally arrive when we surrender our driving to the cloud, with AI-managed traffic grids that control the speed of all the vehicles, never allowing them to get too close to another vehicle. This means the end of auto crashes, while air travel will also go ‘pilotless’ (it has had the capacity to do that for decades), as people begin to trust AI and developing technology. Drones will be the way to get around, for people and products; Amazon is already using drone delivery in some parts of the US and will likely expand as drones become lighter and faster.
- Technical Logistics – An emerging sector, white glove logistics providers such as Rhenus High Tech support many industries and their role is critical in the transportation and installation, not to mention maintenance. White glove teams operate across a wide spectrum of sectors including, banking, manufacturing and healthcare, installing and maintaining technical equipment.
- Artificial Intelligence – AI is also known as machine learning and has made amazing strides in the field of product design. After fitting 100,000 sensors onto a racing car, AI used that data to create a chassis model that left the designers speechless! AI is also helping the healthcare sector, with things like X-Ray diagnosis and even brain surgery, using the latest robotic arms. AI will control everything within a few years and we just have to trust the experts regarding safety; Elon Musk is very vocal about the need for regulation with AI and we already have the technology to create ‘super soldier’ robots. On the positive side, AI will transform healthcare, with life expectancy rising even higher; who knows, we may all see our 100th birthday! Solar energy is also going to replace fossil fuel burning power stations, which is welcomed by all.
- Cashless Society – We’re already well on the way towards a totally digital society, with Bitcoin leading the way in the cryptocurrency race and QR codes will become an integral part of our lives, which may or may not be a good thing.
There are those who voice concerns over ‘transhumanism’, the merging of biological and artificial entities, yet one thing is for sure, we are looking at a new level of convenience.
