Honda Motors is a Japanese company established in 1948. It has a long successful history in the automotive industry. Hyundai is relatively young. It was established in 1967 in South Korea, which has slowly but surely been cementing its place in the competitive automotive industry. Currently, both the companies have a reputation for producing reliable and safe cars.
Let’s put the basic model of a sedan car offered by the two next to each other and analyze which one comes ahead of the other. The sedan cars in question: Honda Civic and Hyundai Accent.
Price
First and foremost, let’s compare the price. Regardless of the fancy gadget and specious interiors, if the car is out of budget, it’s not worth looking into.
The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price or the MSRP for the Honda Civic is roughly around $20,000, while the Hyundai Accent is around $15,395. Now, the MSRP is what the manufacture is proposing. Normally, a dealer will add an extra amount on top, which will be considered their profit.
Considering that, the Hyundai Accent is definitely a winner as it is more affordable.
Dimensions
It is true that most sedan cars are usually the same dimensions. However, there are always certain cars that are just a bit bigger which might translate into having just a little bit more legroom.
Honda Civic length is 182.7 inched while the Hyundai Accent length is 172.6 inches. The rest of the dimensions are almost the same with the Hyundai Accent being around inches smaller in each category (fore width, back width, and maximum width) except for the height, in which Hyundai Accent 57.1 inches and Honda Civic is 55.7 inches.
As predicted, the difference in dimensions does result in a bigger legroom, in this case to the back passengers. Honda Civic provides a space of 37.4 inches while the Hyundai Accent provides 33.5 inches. It should also be noted that Honda Civic has more space across the various categories such as front and back shoulder space and headspace.
Considering that, Honda Civic wins this round, as it is bigger and provides more space for the passengers and the driver.
Gadgets and Specs
Both of the sedan cars have up-to-date technology that can be expected in the price point being offered. Both have a standard Bluetooth connection and an Aux cable input option. They also have a cruise control and a keyless entry along with the power mirrors and audio options of the steering wheel. However, the Hyundai Accent does not have adaptive cruise control that can increase and decrease the speed of the car automatically while on cruise control to maintain the distance between itself and the vehicle in front. Hyundai Accent also does not have climate control, which basically raises or lowers the temperature automatically to maintain the set temperature. These features are available in the Honda Civic. What is not available, is the option to open the trunk from afar and options of having leather or premium synthetic seats, rather than just cloth material. These are offered in the Hyundai Accent.
Considering that, Honda Civic wins the round. Even though it does not have certain features, the features present in the Honda Civic are more pronounced than the ones present in Hyundai Accent.
Safety Features
This has to be one of the crucial elements to look into before purchasing or even shortlisting any vehicles. Accidents happen in the blink of an eye and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Both of the companies take safety features very seriously. They both have five airbags for the driver, the front head, the sides, the back of the head, and the passenger. They also have traction and stability control to make sure the car maintains its balance while turning or coming to an abrupt halt. However, Honda Civic has the added feature of a Lane Departure Warning and a Lane Keeping Assist that is not found in the Hyundai Accent.
Considering that, Honda Civic wins this round for having bonus features.
Conclusion
After putting the cars against each other in different categories, it’s clear that Honda Civic is a slightly better choice between the two. The difference is not as distinct and noticeable, but they are there. Honda Civic has better safety features, has more leg space but is also pricier than the Hyundai Accent.
