The world is filled with scary, questionable things at the moment, and it’s easy to feel powerless or puzzled.
If you want to get a better understanding about current events or want to play your part in making a difference in the world – no matter how small – here are a few ways you can use your voice for the greater good.
Get crafty with signs and posters
Making posters or signs for the causes you’re passionate about is just one way to make a difference. There are plenty of ways to make a charitable donation to a local cause, but making posters for all to see could inspire others to do the same.
That’s not to say you have to be attending marches and protests. If that’s not really your scene, you can still place posters in a window in your house, leave a sign on the front gate or even stick a sign in your car window. Getting the word out there is one of the best things you can do.
Start writing
If you’re more of a wordsmith than a creative crafter, writing is another great way to express yourself.
It could be through poetry, stories or even just journaling. When you’re done, you can keep it all to yourself, or share with friends and family. You could even get a blog to upload your words for a larger audience. Sharing your thoughts could help you find a supportive group of likeminded people. Then, you can all work together to give a voice to those that don’t currently have one.
Speak and listen
Part of using your voice, is listening to what others have to say.
Make sure to engage in conversation with friends, family, or even strangers at the bus stop about how they’re feeling.
It’s always good to collect as many different perspectives and opinions.
Ask questions
It’s okay to be confused or need more clarity. Never be afraid to asked questions when you’re uncertain about things. It’s important to be curious and open to learning new things!
Go online
Whether you start sharing your voice on your social media channels, or branch out to find other forums and communities, the internet is a great place to gain insight and information into the things that you’re interested in.
Listen to podcasts (or create your own)
Although this isn’t technically using your own voice for the greater good, it’s always important to gain a rounded opinion about any topic you’re passionate about.
Podcasts are a great place to start. Easy to listen to while on the move, you’ll gain plenty of information and opinion about your favorite topics or learn something entirely new.
You could even have a go at making your own podcast about the things you’re interested in.
To use your voice for the greater good, you need to make sure you have all the facts. Get researching and learning everything you can about the causes you support, and spread your findings through writing, blogging, conversation or art.
