This guide will give a general rundown of Clue Scrolls.
Who doesn’t like more loot and OSRS items? Old School RuneScape has many ways to get more OSRS gold and gear than just combat. There are a lot of extra activities and content that can be completed to get valuable rewards. For example, players can find Clue Scrolls that will send them on a treasure trail of clues.
As you would expect, when you reach the end of the trail you will be rewarded with a bundle of riches. The rewards include OSRS GP, weapons, runes, gear, and unique OSRS items. This makes it useful to do these when possible.
Let’s get started on everything you need to know about Clue Scrolls.
What Are Clue Scrolls?
Clue Scrolls are rare OSRS items that can drop from monsters when killed. These scrolls will take players on a treasure trail to follow. This trail will provide the players with clues on how to find the reward casket. The reward casket has many unique OSRS items that are worth a lot of OSRS gold. Clue Scrolls don’t only come from monsters, they can be acquired from minigames, mining, and other methods.
It is hard to try and farm for a Clue Scroll, but when you get one, you might as well do them. Some of them are quick and offer little rewards, while others are harder, but will offer greater rewards when completed.
Clue Scroll Difficulties
Clue Scrolls come in 6 different difficulties. The higher the difficulty the better your rewards will be. However, it will also take much longer to complete, but it is usually worth it. If you aren’t high level, you shouldn’t attempt harder scrolls, as they can take you to more difficult areas and you might not be ready yet.
You can only have one Clue Scroll of each difficulty on you. For example, you can have a beginner and medium scroll, but you can’t have 2 medium scrolls.
Here are the 6 Clue Scrolls difficulties:
- Beginner – These scrolls offer quick rewards, as you only need to follow and complete 1-3 clues.
- Easy – Works the same as beginner scrolls. However, you will need to follow 2-4 clues.
- Medium – These might require having completed a certain quest to gain access to an area. Also, 3-5 clues are needed to reach the end.
- Hard – Your gear will start to come into play here. You will most likely need to fight enemies while following the 4-6 clues.
- Elite – Same as the hard scrolls, but will need to fight tougher monsters, figure out harder puzzles, and complete 5-7 clues.
- Master – Master Clue Scrolls are the hardest and require players to be high-level and skilled. 6-8 clues will also now need to be completed.
Types of Clues
There are a lot of different clue types. Some are easy, while some are harder. The type of clue you get will also sometimes depend on the Clue Scroll difficulty. You can have the same type of clue appear more than once on a treasure trail. The types of clues range from locating NPCs to completing puzzles.
Here are the following types of clues you may receive:
- Anagrams – These are self-explanatory. The letters will appear scrambled, and you have to put them in the correct order. These are names of NPCs, so get to know your characters.
- Challenge Scrolls – These are simple for the most part as well. It will provide you with a question or problem and you have to solve it.
- Cipher Clues – This is similar to anagrams but uses Ceaser’s Cipher to determine the answer.
- Coordinate Clues – Another simple scroll. You will be given a set of coordinates, go to them to find the reward.
- Cryptic Clues – These are clues that will send you to a general location or give a vague statement on what you need to find.
- Emote Clues – The player will need certain items and then emote at that location or near an NPC.
- Fairy Ring Clues – Players will need to go to the Fairy Ring with the three letters shown. Then follow the numbers in steps. From left to right are North, East, South, and West.
- Hot Cold Clues – Simple hot and cold game. The hotter you are, the closer you are to the objective.
- Light Boxes – Light Boxes are small puzzles to complete. You will need to get all of the lights on within the Light Box. Then take it to the required NPC.
- Map Clues – Map clues are like treasure hunting. You will be shown a picture of the location. You will need to find it to get your reward.
- Puzzle Boxes – This is another classic puzzle. You need to constantly move tiles to the only space to make the picture complete.
Conclusion
In short, Clue Scrolls are off-beat ways to earn some fantastic rewards that are worth a lot of OSRS gold. It is best to use Clue Scrolls as soon as possible to maximize your rewards. Since you can only hold one for each difficulty, not doing it means you could be missing out on Clue Scrolls that drop. The easier scrolls should be done since they can be done much quicker, even if the rewards aren’t extremely valuable.
