Many people have played Danganronpa, but you may be surprised to learn that some Danganronpa characters never show up in the main storyline at all! What makes these characters unique? How do they differ from the average student? And how did they end up getting killed off? These are just some of the questions I’ll answer in this list of the 12 best dangan ronpa characters ever.
Danganronpa:
A story of a mutual killing. Each student is given a target to murder, and if their identity is discovered before they kill them, and will execute them in turn. They adapted this theme of mutual killing from a Japanese visual novel called Dangan Ronpa, developed by Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd. The game has four main sequels, which are Super Dangan Ronpa. New Dangan Ronpa V3: Killing Harmony, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (2015) and an animated film titled Super danganronpa characters: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen released in October.
Both New Dangan Ronpa V3 and Killing Harmony have been announced for western release sometime early on PlayStation 4 and Vita and PC via Steam. These titles were localized under new names; Trigger Happy Havoc became New dangnaronpa V3, while Goodbye Despair became Killing Harmony.
Another spin-off series featuring only female characters known as Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble. It features high school students who partake in life-threatening experiments. Still, instead of finding who killed themselves during Mutual Killing, these experiments could prove fatal, making it a deadly survival game. Here are some famous danganronpa all characters.
Junko Enoshima:
The Danganronpa girls are love-to-hate characters, with Junko Enoshima at their forefront. Although she’s not technically the main character in any of the games (though she is a student at Hope’s Peak Academy), Enoshima stole every scene she was in and is one of gaming’s most famous villains. She’s driven by a strong sense of despair, choosing to push everyone away because her ultimate plan involves getting them all to kill each other so that they can feel genuine sorrow for themselves. She lures them in with promises of hope and talent but does everything in her power to stop them from achieving their dreams—she even kidnaps her classmates and forces them into deadly situations.
Kokichi Oma:
The ultimate mastermind, Kokichi Oma, is an enigma. He has an uncanny knack for being where he’s not supposed to be, such as taking pictures of girls without their consent. However, he also seems genuine, at least more so than some other characters in Danganronpa 2. As shown during his class trial in Chapter 5, he truly cares about others, and that’s what makes him charming and dynamic to watch. His unpredictable personality keeps people on their toes, and because of that, he’s one of my favorite Danganronpa characters 1 ever.
Ibuki Mioda:
A member of Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles and a fan-favorite character from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Ibuki is a girl who speaks in haiku and loves video games, music, and animals (especially her pet hamster). She loves hanging out with her friends, even though they often make fun of her adorable personality.
I love Ibuki because she is a gentle soul who doesn’t have ulterior motives or desires. Plus, she’s voice by my favorite voice actress ever. In some ways, it was nice that her game had minimal violence since that allows us to see more of Ibuki outside of murder situations.
And when she did get violent on screen? That was awesome too! I loved every scene where you got to see more of her raw side. Which just made me feel as if there was so much more depth within Ibuki than what you were initially able to observe during Danganronpa 2. But it also helps that Misaki Konno voices her, AND I already knew she would be one of my favorites well before playing the games.
Nagito Komaeda:
As a semi-main character from danganronpa characters: Trigger Happy Havoc, there is no denying Komaeda’s popularity among fans. As a mastermind of one of Danganronpa 2’s killing games. It was a hint that Komaeda has some multiple personality disorder. Even so, his carefree attitude toward life juxtaposed with his death fetish is what makes him such an intriguing character in both games. I think many fans will be just as fascinated by him as I was.
When he was first introduced to me, I thought he seemed like a bland, albeit beautiful young man. What followed afterward greatly surprised me; it took me by surprise because of how much depth he had and how well he handled himself throughout each chapter in which he appeared—even when most others would have crumbled under pressure.
Of course, he’ll forever remain memorable for being on my absolute favorite team alongside Celeste (her affinity for tiny monsters being rather cute). Oh! And who could forget that time when everyone thought they would finally meet up again after graduating? It turns out there were only fragments left behind due to.
Makoto Naegi:
During trials, Naegi maintains his composure and talks down his opponents to prevent bloodshed. He cares deeply for his friends and even considers sacrificing himself if it would save their lives; he does so willingly in Chapter 4 of Super Dangan Ronpa 2 . While Naegi is capable of becoming severe during trials, he usually is quite laid-back, often cracking jokes with a smile on his face. He believes that people are inherently good and don’t like thinking badly of others. Naegi also has a soft spot for cute things, particularly cats and animals that he deems attractive. Because of his disposition towards kindness, many people think highly of him.
Gundham Tanaka:
One of people favorite parts about danganronpa 2 characters is how much extra character development we get to see in some of our favorites from 1. Being one of my all-time favorite characters. I was more than a little happy to see just how far Gundham had come since his original appearance in DR1. Several traits remain—like his complete inability to lie or be dishonest. But he’s a lot less stubborn and speaks a lot more eloquently than he use to. Not only that, but he’s able to show emotion now! He even gets jealous. Overall, he’s still just as weird as ever, but on a completely different level, something I found very satisfying when playing through 2 for the first time.
Celestia Ludenberg:
It’s no surprise that one of our favorite danganropa characters has also taken a spot on our list of best danganronpa girls. There’s something about her that keeps us coming back for more; it might be her fantastic outfit, or maybe it’s just because we love reading dangan ronpa fanfiction! Whatever it is, we’re sure you’ll agree with us when we say Celestia Ludenberg is one of the best dangsnronpa characters out there.

Mikan Tsumiki:
As one of the best danganronpa characters, Mikan is a true standout character. Not only was she key to setting up some of my favorite mysteries and plot twists. But she was also a shining example of growth through personal hardship. Her relationship with her past self (the Ultimate Nurse) played an integral role in Season One’s murder mystery. They helped push her development along as she sought to change herself for the better. Her relationship with Genocide Jack pushed Season Two’s story into highly dark territory. That I wasn’t expecting at all, while still being relevant and well. Written enough to be a significant part of Mikan’s story overall. She might not have been number one on my list, but it would’ve been hard to ignore her altogether.
Chiaki Nanami:
The Ultimate Gamer. If you like to think of yourself as a real-life gamer, you probably don’t want to mess with Nanami. She is a professional gamer who took first place in gaming tournaments all over Japan. And even won a prize at an international gaming competition in America. You may want to re-think your whole life if you are debating with her in any way. Because she will kill you before she lets that happen.
Byakuya Togami:
If you’re a fan of every danganronpa character, you have to know about Byakuya Togami. He is one of my favorite characters in all of danganronpa. Togami has a fantastic personality that captivates many people, and he knows how to get things done. Just like everyone else, he isn’t perfect, and he does have some flaws as well. But that’s what makes him so interesting. As a leader, he also gives his team good advice and tries to get things done quickly. I could honestly talk about him for hours, but I think I will end it here for now. Who are your favorite danganronpa characters v1?
Chihiro Fujisaki:
Without a doubt, Chihiro is one of my favorite danganronpa characters in gaming. He’s sweet, kind-hearted, and (mostly) harmless; he goes out of his way to help others— even when it puts him in danger. I also love how dark his character becomes; there’s something morbidly fascinating about seeing a carefree dude turn into an evil sadist. It shows how easily corrupt humans can be. If you haven’t played Danganronpa, I highly recommend you try it out—but play it for Chihiro’s story arc alone.
