Any house is incomplete without windows. Windows are our gateway to the outside world – nature, people, and the surrounding society.
A good home is when you know the windows are clean and sparkling. This is why it is necessary to take good care of them and make sure they are as stain-free as possible. Even though there is no hard rule as such, you should still clean all the windows once every one or two weeks.
If you wish to know some tips on how to keep them shiny all the time, we have some for you!
1. Start from the top
This is a good way to make sure there are no streaks on the windows as you clean them. Start from the top and then work your way down. This is because when you are cleaning the window, the soapy liquid might drip down and make stains.
Instead of letting the stains stay like that, you can simply allow gravity to your advantage and let the liquid drip down to the areas that haven’t been cleaned yet. Working from the top also makes sure that the areas you have already cleaned don’t get stained.
2. Use temporary screens
If your windows have reflective or high-quality glass installed, they will need special care. The coated surface can be prone to stains and scratches which will then require window glass replacement.
Instead of going through all that hassle, you can simply install temporary screens if construction processes like welding, cutting, or sandblasting take place nearby. Glass panels that are adjacent to concrete, such as concrete slab floors, should also be cleaned with special care.
3. Use a squeegee
If you don’t have a squeegee, it’s high time you purchase one to clean your windows. The difference a squeegee can make in your entire cleaning process will leave you surprised.
Many times, simply wiping the windows with a cloth doesn’t help. The cleaning solution remains and then you have to re-wipe the same areas.
Not only is that a waste of time but it also makes your window glass more prone to breaking. But if you use a simple tool like a squeegee, you can effortlessly polish the glass by working on one section at a time.
4. Wash on cloudy days
Many people think that washing their windows on a sunny day is ideal because then they can see the glass clearly. But this is a very big mistake. You should instead wash your window glass on a cloudy day because on sunny days, the sun can quickly dry up your cleaning solution and leave unwanted residues or streaks.
On the other hand, if you wash them on a cloudy day, the solution will remain for a much longer time and allow you to work comfortably. You will also end up with an amazing streak-free sparkle on the glass.
5. Clean toughened glass carefully
Toughened glass also requires special care because, in this variety of glass, there is something known as “pickup” that is added to the glass surface.
Pickup is nothing but a deposit of very tiny particles of glass that get fused on the surface. You should be careful to never dislodge the pickup particles or damage them.
Otherwise, the surface might get scratched and damaged. Don’t use cleaning equipment that has blades or scrapers. Instead, use a soft cotton cloth that will make sure that the pickup stays in place.
6. Make your own window cleaner
Buying good-quality window cleaners can be a very expensive job. Why not make a window cleaner at home? Not only will it save you money but you will also be satisfied with its quality and quantity!
A DIY cleaner also doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, so you know exactly what you put in the solution.
You can mix a cup of rubbing alcohol, a cup of water, and one tablespoon of vinegar. Isopropyl alcohol and vinegar react together and make a solution that’s as good as commercial window cleaners. This solution also gives a great shine to your glass!
Over to you…
Window cleaning is not a tough job if you do the work properly. Just remember to protect your glass from any sort of contamination and handle it carefully. If, however, the glass breaks or you get a cut, make sure to treat your wound and dispose of the broken glass as soon as possible.
