Rooibos tea is also known as African tea, red tea, bush tea, or red bush tea. It is a type of herbal tea and not related to green or black tea. It comes from the dried leaves of the Aspalathus Linearis plant in South Africa. There are two kinds of rooibos tea, one is rooibos, and the other is green rooibos. The process of making Rooibos tea may vary its color, such as it becoming red (because of full oxidization) or green (because of less oxidation) or brownish. It doesn’t contain caffeine. So, it’s a good alternative for those people who like decaffeinated tea or who are intolerant of caffeine. It’s not a good source of vitamins and minerals aside from copper and fluoride. This caffeine-free tea makes it an option for other varieties of teas. You can consume this tea like black tea, and also add some sugar and milk. And various ways to make rooibos tea such as ice tea, lattes, cappuccinos, etc. Rooibos tea has a unique aroma and flavor, which provides you lots of health benefits.

Rooibos tea is nowadays a pretty popular herbal tea in the world. It is a traditional drink in Africa. Because it’s a caffeine-free tea, it becomes an alternative to black and green tea. It is full of antioxidants that promote various health benefits. Check these soothing, flavourful wholesale teas as well!

  • Caffeine Free tea good for health

Black tea and green tea have higher caffeine than rooibos tea. As you know, consuming a high amount of caffeine causes many diseases such as heart risk and insomnia. Rooibos tea is a naturally caffeine-free tea. It’s a great alternative to black tea and green tea. It has lower tannins content than black and green tea. Tannins are natural compounds that have a presence in black tea and green tea, which obstructs the absorption of iron and some nutrients. Unlike black tea and green tea, it doesn’t contain oxalic acid that increases the risk of kidney stones. It’s a good tea for those who struggle with their kidney problems. 

  • Rich in antioxidants

Some evidence has shown that rooibos tea increases the level of antioxidants in the body. Rooibos tea contains many antioxidants, such as aspalathin and quercetin. These antioxidants prevent cells from damage by free radicals. One study on 15 people has found that people who drank rooibos tea increased their antioxidants level by 2.9%, and from a green type of rooibos tea, it increased to 6.6% of antioxidants. Some studies on 12 healthy people also found that rooibos doesn’t show any effect on blood antioxidants. Well, this is possible because antioxidants content in rooibos tea is for a short period, or maybe your body is inefficient to absorb these antioxidants.

  • Promotes heart health

Nowadays, even youngsters having problems with heart disease. Antioxidants contained in rooibos tea have different ways to keep your heart healthy. Drinking rooibos tea may have some good effect on your blood pressure by preventing ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme). ACE indirectly increases your blood pressure in your body. In one study on 17 people have shown that drinking rooibos tea blocks ACE activity 30-60 minutes ingestion. But it didn’t show any changes in blood pressure. Rooibos tea shows some positive effects on cholesterol levels. One study on overweight people has found that people who drank rooibos tea for six weeks regularly reduce their harmful cholesterol levels (LDL). 

  • Lower cancer risk

It may lower the risk of cancer. Test-tube studies have found that antioxidants content in rooibos tea can kill the cancer cell and prevent tumor growth to other parts of the body.

Well, it’s not clear that rooibos tea’s two antioxidants quercetin and luteolin are enough to prevent cancer and stop the growth of a tumor.

However, vegetables and fruits are much better for lowering the risk of cancer.

  • Prevent diabetes

Some studies on animals have found that rooibos tea has anti-diabetic effects. One study on mice with type 2 diabetes has found that aspalathin contained in rooibos tea can balance the blood sugar levels, which is a good indication for type 2 diabetic patients. Well, human studies needed for this.

  • Helps in glowing skin

According to some studies, applying rooibos tea may reduce your wrinkles and glow your skin.

Some other health benefits which are unclarified such as

Bone density – Well, very few studies are there, which shows that drinking rooibos tea will maintain your bone health and improve it.

Help in improving digestion- It’s a tea’s characteristic that helps in improving digestion, but it’s not clarified that rooibos tea does improve your metabolism.
