If you want to delve into the darker side of the Catholic Church, Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight is the movie to watch. And as it happens, it’s available to stream on Netflix. However, if you’ve already looked it up, you may have noticed that it’s not available in your region. Check out StreamCatcher for details on:
- Which Netflix countries currently have Spotlight available for streaming
- Where you can find the movie dubbed or subtitled in different languages
- Which VPNs can reliably unblock different Netflix libraries, and will allow you to watch Spotlight or any of your other favorites on the platform
Not familiar with how to change your Netflix region with a VPN? Read on for the details.
What Is a VPN, Exactly?
A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, allows you to mask your real IP address, which reveals details about your real life location to online services. Once you connect to a VPN server in a different country, you are assigned an IP from that region. Essentially, this allows you to access websites as if you were physically present in said country.
VPNs also encrypt (or scramble) your network traffic, protecting you from hackers on public Wi-Fi, greedy Internet providers that log and sell your data to advertisers, and many other cyber threats. A neat side benefit to this is that your ISP can’t slow down your streaming, as they have no way of telling what you’re doing online.
And yes, in case you weren’t aware, ISPs have begun throttling user bandwidth after net neutrality was repealed. If you’ve ever wondered why Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, or any other services are slower some days, now you know why.
How to Watch ‘Spotlight’ with a VPN
Due to pesky licensing restrictions, Netflix are forced to limit what shows and movies you can access depending on where you live. There are other factors at play, of course – but licensing plays a key role when it comes to what you can watch on Netflix.
In any case, using a VPN to bypass these restrictions will allow you to get the most out of your subscription. Here’s how you can unblock Spotlight (or any other region-exclusive content, for that matter):
- First, you’ll need to sign up with a VPN that actually works on Netflix. The streaming giant constantly blocks VPN IP addresses, so only a handful of providers can actually keep up with their filtering efforts. If you’re not sure where to look, there are several excellent recommendations on StreamCatcher.
- Download and install the provider’s app on your device of choice.
- Launch the VPN and input your login details.
- Select a VPN server from the provider’s extensive list to connect to that region. Right now, Spotlight is available in several different countries, such as the UK, Japan, Sweden, and Italy. Of course, that’s subject to change at any time. Check StreamCatcher for the latest info.
Once you’re connected, you should be able to watch Spotlight (or your movie of choice) on Netflix. In rare cases, you might need to refresh the page a few times, or clear your browser cookies. If that doesn’t work, switching to a server in a different supported country should do the trick.
